It is our goal to encourage future researchers to utilise the LAD model to support the design and development of their lifelog application prototypes and further solidify the model's contribution to the domain as a whole. Lifelog 4.0.A.0.39 by Sony Mobile Communications Inc. ![]() This work is based on the accumulation of insights garnered from involvement in a number of collaborative lifelog projects over the past decade. It was a DARPA program from the Pentagon that was creating a program to have every human willingly post every single private detail about themselves. Lifelogs are real-world data on daily life that are usually stored in personal storage or cloud storage. We demonstrate the LAD model's utility by exploring two case studies and a retrospective analysis of VRLE, a real-world application prototype developed to examine the potential of lifelog retrieval in virtual reality. The lifelogging envisaged by Google, Sony, and many others seemed to be a short-lived trend, killed by concerns over privacy and over-sharing. By remaining impartial to the specific lifelog data, technology platform, and application criteria, the model is structured in a way to have broad-ranging utility within the domain. The objective of the LifeLog concept was to be able to trace the ‘threads’ of an individual’s life in terms of events, states, and relationships. The Pentagon canceled its so-called LifeLog project, an ambitious effort to build a database tracking a persons entire existence. The LAD model is intended to address many of these challenges and support the design of novel interactive lifelog prototypes that target a broader range of application use cases. In this work we present the Lifelog Application Design (LAD) model and discuss some of the modern challenges associated with total-capture lifelogging.
